THORNS
John 19:2…And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put [it] on His head, and they put on Him a purple robe…
THE FIRST TIME THE WORD “THORNS” APPEARS IN THE WORD OF GOD IS FOUND IN Genesis 3:18…thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field…
THORNS ARE A CURSE THAT GOD PUT ON MANKIND BECAUSE OF THE FIRST SIN BY ADAM AND EVE. IT IS NO COINCIDENCE THAT JESUS WORE A CROWN OF THORNS WHILE BEING CRUCIFIED. HE TOOK OUR CURSE ON HIS HEAD. WE ARE TOLD IN Deuteronomy 21:23-24…His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged [is] accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the Lord thy God giveth thee [for] an inheritance.
II Cor. 5:21…For He hath made Him [to be] sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.
Ro. 3:23…For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God…
Ro. 3:26…NLT: Yet now God in His gracious kindness declares us not guilty. He has done this through Christ Jesus, Who has freed us by taking away our sins.
GOD SENT JESUS TO TAKE THE PUNISHMENT FOR OUR SINS AND TO SATISFY GOD'S ANGER AGAINST US. WE ARE MADE RIGHT WITH GOD WHEN WE BELIEVE THAT JESUS SHED HIS BLOOD, SACRIFICING HIS LIFE FOR US AND ARE WASHED IN THAT BLOOD. GOD IS BEING ENTIRELY FAIR AND JUST WHEN HE DOES NOT PUNISH THOSE WHO SIN BUT LET JESUS PAY THE PRICE.
GOD IS ENTIRELY FAIR WHEN HE DECLARES SINNERS TO BE RIGHT IN HIS SIGHT BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE IN JESUS AND ARE OBEDIENT TO HIS PLAN OF SALVATION.
THE THORN TREES THAT YOU SEE HERE AND ELSEWHERE ON THIS RIDGE ARE VERY SHARP AND CAN EASILY PENETRATE A SHOE. OFTEN THESE THORNS CAUSE HUGE TIRES ON TRACTORS TO DEFLATE. CAN YOU IMAGINE THE PAIN OF OUR SAVIOUR AS THEY PLATTED A MOCK CROWN ON HIS HEAD? HE TOOK OUR CURSE, THE SIN OF YOU AND I ON HIS HEAD, BECAUSE OF HIS LOVE FOR US.
Ro. 8:1… [There is] therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
